Welcome to Rural Adjacent @ The Metro Homestead

Hello Friends,

We're Tim and Niqui, and we want to personally welcome you to Rural Adjacent @ The Metro Homestead.

For years, we've shared a passion for learning, serving others, stewarding the resources we've been given, and creating a life centered around the things that matter most. Along the way, we've discovered that many people are searching for something similar, a deeper connection to their food, their families, their communities, and the choices they make every day. That's why we created Rural Adjacent @ The Metro Homestead.

This isn't really about homesteading in the city. It's about creating what we call a Hybrid-Homestead lifestyle wherever you are. Whether you live on a few acres, in a subdivision, in a traditional neighborhood, or in a condo with nothing more than a small patio, we believe there are opportunities for everyone to create a healthier, more intentional, and more fulfilling lifestyle.

This journey isn't about fitting into someone else's definition of how you should live. It's about discovering what matters most to you and creating a lifestyle that reflects your values, goals, interests, and vision for the future.

At the heart of everything we do are five core principles:

Education

Every meaningful journey begins with learning – especially when it comes to food.

Knowledge is one of the most valuable resources we can share. We are committed to learning, teaching, exploring, and creating opportunities for people to gain practical skills related to gardening, food preservation, healthy food systems, sustainability, stewardship, and intentional living.

We don't claim to have all the answers. In fact, we're still learning every day ourselves. But we believe there is tremendous value in asking questions, sharing experiences, learning together, and helping one another grow.

Because before we can make informed choices, we first need the knowledge and confidence to explore what's possible.

Produce

Produce is about becoming more intentional about the food that nourishes you and your family.

For some, that begins with shopping at the grocery store and choosing fresh, wholesome ingredients. For others, it means visiting a local farmers market, joining a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, or buying directly from local farms and producers. And for many, the ultimate goal is producing some or all of that food themselves, whether through a backyard garden, an orchard, raised beds, or bartering (trading) within your community.

There isn't a single "right" way to participate.

Every choice that brings you closer to understanding where your food comes from, who produced it, how it was grown, and understanding the benefits (better nutrition) of healthier living.

Along the way, we'll explore gardening, orchards, local food systems, backyard food production, and scaled agriculture. Whether you're harvesting tomatoes from your own garden or supporting a neighboring farmer, you're helping strengthen the connection between people, food, and community.

Because every journey begins with a single step. And every step matters.

Preserve

Learn to conserve what you produce or what you choose to purchase.

For generations, families understood how to can, freeze, dehydrate, ferment, and store food to provide for their households throughout the year. These skills are not relics of the past; they remain valuable tools that can help families reduce waste, save money, and gain a greater appreciation for the food they enjoy.

Whether you're preserving a harvest from your own garden or making the most of locally sourced foods, preserving is about making thoughtful use of the resources available to you.

Prepare

Learn to transform food into something healthy, nourishing, and meaningful.

Preparing food is about more than recipes. It's about gathering around the table, caring for those we love, sharing with neighbors, celebrating traditions, and understanding the journey food takes from field to fork.

Preparing healthy food is one of the simplest and most rewarding ways to invest in ourselves, our families, and our communities.

Community

Nothing meaningful is built alone.

Community is the foundation that ties everything together. We believe neighbors helping neighbors, families working together, churches serving locally, local businesses supporting one another, and communities becoming more engaged and connected are all part of building a better future.

When people come together around shared values and a common purpose, amazing things can happen.

Perhaps the most important thing we want you to know is this: There is no single right way to be part of this journey. In fact, this journey belongs to you.

For some people, it may begin with a backyard garden, shopping at a Farmers’ Market, preserving food, or learning traditional skills. For others, it may mean supporting local farmers, joining a CSA, purchasing healthier foods, cooking more meals at home, attending workshops, or simply becoming more intentional about everyday choices.

Wherever you are today and wherever you hope to go, there is a place for you here.

You don't have to grow your own food to appreciate where it comes from.

You don't have to preserve a year's worth of harvest to value food.

You don't have to become a homesteader to embrace a healthier and more purposeful lifestyle.

What matters is discovering what works for you.

Together, we'll explore opportunities, products, resources, ideas, experiences, and practical solutions that can help you create a lifestyle aligned with your goals, your values, and your vision for the future.

Because this isn't about fitting into someone else's definition of success.

It's about designing a lifestyle that feels right for you and the people you care about most.

That is ultimately what Rural Adjacent @ The Metro Homestead is about.

• Education
• Producing
• Preserving
• Preparing
• Community

And most importantly, building the journey together.

We believe there is tremendous value in slowing down, reconnecting with the things that matter most, learning practical skills, supporting local communities, making healthier choices, and becoming more intentional about how we live.

As this community grows, we'll share successes, failures, lessons learned, discoveries, and practical ideas that all of us can learn from. Together, we'll explore educational resources, guides, workshops, demonstrations, community projects, curated products, and experiences that help us move closer to the lifestyles we want to create.

Whether you're an experienced gardener, a local food advocate, a church leader looking for ways to serve your community, someone looking to make healthier choices, or simply someone curious about creating a more intentional lifestyle, we invite you to join us.

This is more than a project. It's a journey. Your journey. Our journey. A journey we're building together.

Welcome to Rural Adjacent @ The Metro Homestead.

Let's grow together.
